Who Is Behind Rental Recon?
My name is Ryan Drew, and I have been hosting on Airbnb for over 9 years. What started as a single property in Boise, Idaho has grown into a portfolio of multiple short-term rentals that I actively manage today. I am a licensed Realtor and real estate investor, which means I approach short-term rentals not just as a hosting hobby but as a serious income-producing investment strategy.
I have maintained Airbnb Superhost status continuously throughout my hosting career — a designation that requires consistently high ratings, low cancellation rates, and a track record of genuine hospitality. I know what it takes to run a profitable, highly-rated short-term rental because I do it every day.
Boise is one of the most competitive short-term rental markets in the Pacific Northwest, with tourism, outdoor recreation, and business travel driving strong year-round demand. Managing properties here has taught me how to optimize listings, price strategically, handle difficult guests, navigate insurance, and stay ahead of Airbnb’s constantly changing algorithm.
Why I Started Rental Recon
When I started hosting, I spent countless hours searching for reliable, experience-based information about running an Airbnb. I started Rental Recon in 2016 to fill that gap — a resource written by an actual host, based on real experience managing real properties.

When I explain how Airbnb’s algorithm works, I am drawing on years of directly observing what moves the needle on actual bookings.
