How to Search Airbnb by Keyword: Find listings With Amenities You Need for a Perfect Vacation

Are you planning a romantic getaway to the mountains and just have to have a jacuzzi at your Airbnb? What about finding the perfect apartment in Paris with a balcony overlooking the busy city streets? If you have a specific keyword or amenity in mind that you want your rental to have, you may be trying to figure out how to search Airbnb using keywords.

While Airbnb no longer features a keyword search, keep reading for the best way to search Airbnb and how to limit your search results.

How to Search Airbnb by Keyword

How to Search Airbnb by Keyword

Unfortunately, Airbnb removed the keyword search feature from their website in 2016. However, there are still ways to search Airbnb for amenities and keywords. You can limit results by choosing specific dates, locations, and occupancy. Airbnb also has a filter feature that allows you to select desired amenities. If these options don’t work, you can conduct a search with an internet search engine like Google.

Follow These Steps to Limit Your Initial Search Results

Even though you can’t do a keyword search, your initial Airbnb search will allow you to choose your location, travel dates, and occupancy. This will return listings that meet your needs in your desired area.

Step 1: Log onto Airbnb

When you first open Airbnb, you will see this homepage.

Log onto Airbnb

You will notice that there are search options at the top that allow you to choose a location, check-in date, check-out date, and the number of guests. If you want to do a broader search, you can also click “I’m flexible.”

Step 2: Determine your Location

Whether you know the exact neighborhood you want to stay in or just a general area, you can enter the location here:

Determine your Location

You can be as specific as a town name or as general as an entire state. You can also enter state and national park names or specific attractions like “Disney World.” This will populate Airbnb listings in your desired location.

Step 3: Check-in and Check-out Dates

Including specific dates in your search will further narrow your search results. Airbnb will not display properties that are unavailable on your chosen dates. If you haven’t decided on travel dates yet, you can leave this space blank and check your listing’s availability later.

Step 4: How Many Guests are Traveling with You?

Before clicking “search” enter the number of guests, your Airbnb needs to accommodate. This search feature is especially helpful if you are traveling with a larger group. Your search results will not show listings that cannot accommodate the selected number of guests.

Step 5: Browse Your Search Results

After you fill out the search options, click the search button for a list and map of available Airbnb listings. You will be able to scroll through properties to find the one that you like and fits your budget.

I especially love the map feature because even though you don’t have a keyword search, the map allows you to see if a property is waterfront, in the middle of a city, or close to a national park boundary. This helps fill in the gaps left by not having a keyword search.

Use Filters to Find Specific Amenities

Once you have populated a list of search results that fit your location, dates, and guests, you can further narrow down your results using Airbnb filters. These function much like keywords, and Airbnb even provides filter suggestions at the top of the page like “beachfront,” “gym,” “kitchen,” and “pool.”

Use Filters to Find Specific Amenities

If Airbnb’s suggestions aren’t what you are looking for, you can find additional filter features by clicking “Filters.”

Additional Filter Features

The “Filters” button brings you to a list of additional, specific amenities that you can select. Some of these options include:

  • Superhost properties
  • Free cancellation
  • Indoor fireplace
  • Jacuzzi
  • Crib
  • Ski-in/Ski-out
  • Property type
  • Host language

You can even select a specific number of beds, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

Additional Filters

These filters essentially function as keywords. When you select an amenity, Airbnb removes any property that doesn’t feature what you want in the search results.

Using an Internet Search Engine to Find an Airbnb

If Airbnb’s search features haven’t turned up your desired result, some users have discovered that a simple internet search may work. You can open any internet search browser like Google or Bing and enter a specific Airbnb description.

Google Search

You should make sure to include “Airbnb” in your search as well as specific information like the style listing you want and the location. For example, “Airbnb cabin near Grand Teton national park.”

This search will populate several websites with results, including Airbnb. While this doesn’t always work, it could help you find other property options that you hadn’t previously considered.

Specific Airbnb Search

Hosts: An important part of getting your Airbnb booked is making sure you include all the features and amenities your listing has to offer. If you leave out that your Airbnb has an indoor fireplace, a guest searching for that amenity will never see your listing! For more listing tips, check out this article.

Finding the Perfect Airbnb Listing

Even though Airbnb removed the keyword search from their website, it is still possible to search Airbnb to find the exact type of property you want. You can narrow your initial results by setting specific parameters for location, dates, and number of guests. If there is a particular amenity you want, like a jacuzzi or indoor fireplace, you can select that using Airbnb’s filters. If all else fails, you can always try an internet search.

These various search options will allow you to find the perfect Airbnb to plan your dream getaway with all the right amenities.
