How to Use Expedia Bundle and Save (Step-by-Step)

By Ryan Drew | Superhost and Vacation Rental Expert | Last Updated April 15, 2026

Expedia’s Bundle & Save feature lets you combine flights, hotels, and cars into a discounted package — and when it works, the savings can be substantial. I use Expedia for most of my flight and hotel bookings, and bundling is one of the first things I check when I’m planning a multi-component trip.

The thing most guides miss: Bundle & Save has two completely different modes, and only one of them requires you to book everything at once. Understanding the difference is what separates people who get a real deal from people who leave savings behind.

What Is Expedia Bundle & Save?

Bundle & Save is Expedia’s pricing program for combining multiple travel components — typically a flight plus hotel, with an optional car rental — into a single booking that costs less than booking each item separately. Expedia negotiates discounted rates with airlines and hotels based on volume, then passes a portion of those savings to you when you book them together.

In search results, eligible items are marked with a yellow Bundle & Save badge. You can filter to show only bundle-eligible options. The savings are applied automatically — no promo codes needed.

The Two Ways Bundle & Save Works

This is the most important thing to understand before you start searching.

Mode 1: Book as a Package

Search via the Packages tab and select your flight and hotel together in one transaction. The discount is applied immediately and applies to all eligible components in the booking.

Available to: Everyone — no membership required

Mode 2: Add-On Advantage

MEMBERS ONLY

Book a flight first, then add your hotel later — any time up to the last day of travel — and still receive bundle pricing on the hotel. You don’t need to decide everything at once.

Available to: One Key members only (free to join)

Ryan’s Take: Add-On Advantage is the underrated one. If you find a good flight price but aren’t ready to commit to a hotel, book the flight and lock in your travel dates. You get the bundle discount on hotels added any time up until check-in. It’s especially useful for international trips where I want to nail the flight fare first and research hotels at my own pace.

How to Use Expedia Bundle & Save: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Go to the Packages Tab

Go to this specific page on Expedia and click the Packages tab at the top (it may also appear as “Bundle & Save” or “Vacation Packages” depending on your device). This opens the bundle search interface.

If you’re a One Key member and want to use Add-On Advantage instead, you can search for flights through the standard Flights tab — just book the flight first, then come back to add your hotel later through your Trip in the account dashboard.

Step 2: Sign In (Recommended)

You don’t need an account to book a standard package. But if you want Add-On Advantage — where you book now and add more items later at bundle pricing — you need to be a signed-in One Key member. Membership is free. If you’re not already a member, create an account before you start searching.

Step 3: Enter Your Trip Details

Enter your destination, travel dates, number of travelers, and which components you want to bundle (Flight + Hotel is the most common; you can also add a Car). Toggle Flexible Dates if you have wiggle room — shifting by even one or two days can meaningfully affect the bundled price. See our guide on searching Expedia with flexible dates for how to use the price calendar effectively.

Step 4: Look for the Yellow Bundle & Save Badge

In search results, items eligible for bundle pricing are marked with a yellow Bundle & Save badge. You can filter to show only these listings. Compare the bundled price shown against booking each component separately — Expedia shows both so you can see the actual difference.

Step 5: Select and Customize

Choose your flight and hotel. You can mix and match — the discount applies to eligible combinations, not just specific pairings. Use the filters to narrow by airline, hotel star rating, amenities, or guest review score. If you want to add a car rental, you can do that in the same booking flow.

Step 6: Review the Savings Summary and Complete Booking

Before checking out, Expedia shows a savings summary comparing the bundled price to booking separately. Review it carefully — check cancellation policies for each component, since bundle policies may differ from standalone bookings. If you have Expedia travel credits or OneKeyCash to apply, the payment screen is where you’ll see those options. Complete your booking and check your email for the confirmation.

How Much Can You Actually Save?

Expedia’s own data shows an average savings of 14% on flight + hotel bundles compared to booking separately. The actual amount varies significantly by destination, season, and how flexible your dates are. Savings tend to be larger on international routes and during shoulder seasons, and smaller on high-frequency domestic routes where fares are already competitive.

Adding a car rental to your bundle typically increases the discount further. According to Expedia, bundle savings can cover the cost of your flights or one or more nights of your hotel stay on eligible packages.

One important caveat: bundling isn’t always cheaper. If you find a significantly discounted standalone fare through a budget airline not well-represented in Expedia’s inventory, booking separately might beat the bundle price. Always compare the bundled total against the sum of separate bookings before committing.

When Bundling Is Worth It — and When It Isn’t

Use Bundle & Save when…Skip it when…
You’re booking flight + hotel togetherYou only need a flight (no bundle discount on flights alone)
You have some date flexibilityYou need fully changeable/refundable tickets — bundle fares are often more restrictive
You want to add a car rentalYou’ve found a cheaper standalone fare on a budget carrier not in Expedia’s inventory
You’re a One Key member who wants to lock in a flight fare and decide the hotel laterYou need to book components at very different times with no intent to bundle
You want one itinerary, one payment, and unified booking managementYou want to earn maximum hotel loyalty points — most programs don’t award elite credits for OTA bookings

Tips to Maximize Bundle Savings

  • Use flexible dates. Even a one or two day shift can drop the bundle price meaningfully. The flexible dates price calendar shows the cheapest days to fly in a single view — see our flexible dates guide for the exact steps.
  • Book early for domestic, earlier for international. For U.S. domestic trips, booking 4–8 weeks out typically yields better bundle pricing. For international, 2–4 months is generally the sweet spot.
  • Add the car rental in the initial bundle. Adding a car at the time of booking usually results in a larger combined discount than adding it after the fact — even with Add-On Advantage.
  • Join One Key before you search. Membership is free and unlocks Add-On Advantage (book now, add hotel later at bundle pricing) plus member-only hotel rates on top of bundle savings.
  • Check the “Bundle Eligible” filter. When you search, filter for Bundle & Save listings only so you’re comparing like-for-like. Don’t rely on the badge appearing in an unfiltered results list.
  • Always compare the total against booking separately. Expedia shows this comparison in the bundle results — use it. Bundles are usually but not always cheaper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an Expedia member to use Bundle & Save?

No — you can book a standard package without an account. However, Add-On Advantage (booking one item now and adding more later at bundle pricing) is only available to One Key members. Membership is free, so there’s no reason not to sign up before you start searching.

Can I cancel just the hotel in a bundle?

Typically no — bundle components are linked, and canceling one part may affect the entire package and the associated discount. Some flexible bundle options allow component cancellation, but these usually cost slightly more upfront. Always read the cancellation policy for your specific bundle before booking, not after.

Do I earn OneKeyCash on bundle bookings?

Yes — eligible bundle bookings earn OneKeyCash at the standard rates (2% on hotel stays, 0.2% on flights). You can also still enter your frequent flyer number at checkout to earn airline miles on the flight component alongside your OneKeyCash.

Is bundling always cheaper than booking separately?

Not always. Expedia shows a comparison in the bundle results, so check it before you commit. Budget airlines with very low standalone fares, or hotel loyalty rates that beat OTA pricing, can sometimes make separate bookings cheaper. The bundle is a strong default to check first — but it’s not automatically the best price in every situation.

Does Bundle & Save work for international trips?

Yes — Bundle & Save is available on both domestic and international packages. International bundles, particularly on transatlantic or transpacific routes paired with hotel stays, can produce larger absolute dollar savings than domestic trips because the base prices are higher.

What is the Add-On Advantage and how does it differ from a standard package?

A standard package requires you to book all components (flight + hotel) together in one transaction. Add-On Advantage lets you book a flight first, then add a hotel — or other eligible items — at bundle pricing at any point up until your last day of travel. The key difference is timing: Add-On Advantage gives you flexibility to decide the hotel later while still locking in the bundle discount. It’s only available to One Key members.
