The Best Comforter for Airbnb or Vacation Rental in 2024

After years of running multiple vacation rentals, we have come up with our list of the best comforters for Airbnb. These all meet several important criteria that we will discuss below. Enjoy…!

So What are the Best Comforters for Airbnb Rentals?

All of these comforters work wonderfully in a triple sheeting setup as well, which makes your life as a host so much easier. Keep reading to see specifics on these Airbnb comforters…

Is a Duvet or Comforter Better for Airbnb?

A comforter is basically a thick, heavy blanket that is usually filled with natural or synthetic material, like down or down alternative. A duvet is like a comforter except that it fits inside a duvet cover. Usually, the duvet part is a plain white comforter, while the duvet cover is decorative. Both serve as the top-most layer of bedding

Duvet covers can be a pain to get on and sometimes the duvet will not line up evenly with the duvet cover, leaving gaps in material. However, a good quality duvet and cover will have duvet loops. The loops are sewn on the corners to help secure your comforter properly in its duvet cover.

For your Airbnb, a regular comforter is the easiest way to go. You can even get a comforter set, which may include the comforter and decorative pillowcases, or it may come with a sheet set as well.

How Often Should You Wash Your Airbnb Comforter?

Debated by hosts, but a good rule is to wash in between guests. Comforters don’t get as dirty as other bedding, but they can still be a breeding ground for bacteria and bugs. Most hotels will wash the sheets and pillowcases in between guests, but may not wash the comforter or bedspread as often.

Hotels and rental properties may only wash the duvet cover and not the insert. This could be a marketing strategy for your Airbnb. You could make it a point of stating in the advertisement that you wash all the linens in between guests.

What Kind of Comforter Should You Get for Airbnb? Here’s What to Look for In an Airbnb Comforter

Thin

Use thin comforters year-round and provide extra blankets in a closet for winter. This will allow your guest to add or remove layers based on the season.

Machine Washable- Quick Wash and Dry

When purchasing a comforter, make sure it is machine washable and it will fit in your washing machine and dryer. The last thing you want to do is have to take the comforter to the dry cleaner or laundromat for cleaning between each guest. Always read the care label before washing and drying the comforter. Instructions can vary based on the type of materials the comforter is filled with and the quality of the material.

Hypoallergenic

While down comforters are fluffier, warmer, and feel more luxurious, it’s best to provide only down alternative comforters in your Airbnb to avoid allergic reactions in your guests. Look for comforters labeled hypoallergenic.

These comforters will be made from naturally hypoallergenic materials such as cotton, rayon, or synthetic fibers. They are made to simulate down’s properties, but may not be as soft as down. Hypoallergenic bedding is made to resist allergens, such as dust mites, dander, and mold. Down alternative comforters are also more affordable than down comforters and easier to clean.

Extra Durable

Comforters have a wide price range, but higher-priced comforters could provide better value if they last longer. Down alternative comforters will not be as durable as down and may need to be replaced more often due to wear from repeated washing. Make sure to follow the care label in order to extend the life of the comforter.

What makes a good mattress for an Airbnb?

Mattresses are one of the most costly investments hosts make for their Airbnbs. Be sure to pick one that is comfortable (of course), but also durable and built to last. I usually recommend erring on the side of firmness when it comes to mattresses, as they tend to soften up slightly with frequent use anyways.

A good box spring will help with this as well. Properly covering your new mattress with waterproof and easily washable covers will help you get the most mileage.

How can I efficiently launder my Airbnb’s linens?

There is a tradeoff between the time, money, and energy you spend as a host doing your own laundering versus the amount of time or money you’d save by having it done professionally.

If you already have a high-volume commercial washing machine or something very close to it, you might be okay with handling the laundry yourself. If you’re having to turn over your rental quickly, though, it might be worth it to invest in a laundry service and multiple sets of linens.
