Recently, I started redecorating my Airbnb. It is a cabin, so I wanted the décor to be a fun, rustic, camp theme. I needed a bunk bed for the kids’ room so my rental can accommodate families with children. When I saw the Donco Campsite twin over full bunk bed, I knew I found the perfect bed for my space.
I rated the Donco Campsite Bunk Beds using several criteria like sturdiness, quality, ease of assembly, value. Here are my results:
- Fun Theme
- Easy to assemble
- It doesn't require a box spring or Bunkie board
- Competitive price
- Strong smell
- No additional storage space
- Some concerns about the quality of wood
A Bed with Personality
The Donco twin over full campsite Bunk Bed adds fun and personality to a child’s room. This bunk bed isn’t only a bed; it will allow your child to spend hours playing and using their imagination. It is perfect for siblings or sleepovers and will look great in a room with other rustic decorations.
Some Features of the Donco Campsite Bunk Bed
This bunk bed is rustic and has a distressed grey finish. I like that it kind of looks like tree bark, so the bed resembles a fun treehouse. Instead of two beds stacked over each other, this bunk bed is an L-shape design. Although it takes up more space in a room, it offers more sleep space for the person in the bottom bunk.
Is this Bunk Bed Durable?
Durability is essential to me, especially because this bunk bed will be in a children’s room. Kids tend to be rougher on furniture, so I like to invest in something I know will last even through everyday wear and tear.
This bed is tough and is made from solid pine wood with steel reinforcements, so you don’t have to worry about any pieces being cheap particle board. It is sturdy and should do well for kids’ rooms, whether used for sleep or play.
Although this cute campsite bunk bed looks great in my space, you may be looking for a more traditional bunk bed to match your décor. For more bunk bed recommendations, check out our bunk bed review article for more options for beautiful bunk beds.
Donco Bunk Bed Specifications and Details
The Campsite Bunk Bed is larger than most bunk beds because of the L-shape design. The total dimensions are 79″ x 79″ x 82″. The top bunk is a standard twin-size bed, and the bottom is a standard full-size bed. This bed only weighs 200lbs assembled, so you may need some help positioning it in your room.
What Kind of Mattress Fits This Bunk Bed?
The top bunk requires a standard twin-size mattress. I chose to use a 4-inch memory foam mattress to ensure that the mattress sat lower than the railings. It also allows for a little more headroom under the roof.
The bottom bunk can fit any standard full-size mattress. You have a little more flexibility with mattress thickness for the bottom bunk because the bed platform sits on the floor and doesn’t require safety railings.
I love that these bedframes use a mattress-ready slat system that eliminates the need for a box spring or Bunkie board.

The Assembly Process
I was surprised at how easy it was to assemble this bunk bed. I have had some experiences with bunk beds where construction was a nightmare, but the Donco Campsite bunk bed only took a couple of hours to assemble.
There are many pieces, but they are all clearly labeled, and the directions are clear and easy to follow. One thing to be aware of, this bed comes with the exact amount of hardware you need to assemble it, so be sure to be organized and don’t lose any parts.
I love that you can assemble this bed with the L-shape in either direction. This gives you more options for placing the bed in the perfect spot in your kid’s bedroom.
Although this bunk bed comes with tools for assembly, I used my own power drill. This really helped speed up the whole process. It is completely doable by hand, but it will add considerable time to the assembly process.

Pros and Cons of the Donco Campsite Bunk Bed
The most obvious positive of this bunk bed is the campsite design. I love that this bed isn’t only great for sleeping but also provides hours of fun for your kids. This is great for a smaller room where there may not have been much space for playing.
I love a room with a theme and this bed perfectly complimented my rustic-themed cabin. If rustic isn’t your style, explore other fun Airbnb theme options in our article about themes that will wow your guests.
The Donco campsite bunk bed is made from 100% solid pine wood. It is heavy, sturdy, and durable. I have had particle board furniture in the past, and it just doesn’t hold up well over time. A bed made from 100% wood like this Donco bunk bed will last even with daily use.
The twin over full design is perfect for increasing sleeping capacity in a smaller house. I purchased this bunk bed for an Airbnb cabin, and now I can accommodate larger families or families with an older child because they will fit comfortably on the full-size bed.
Some other positives of the Donco Kids Triple Bunk Beds include:
- Safe and sturdy
- Matches rustic decor
- It doesn’t require a box spring or Bunkie board
- Easy to assemble
- Competitive price
When I first unboxed this bed, I was met with a strong odor. This is due to being made from 100% pine wood. I noticed that other customers had also experienced this strong chemical odor, so I was a little worried.
After assembling the bed, I allowed it to air out in the room, and after a couple of days, the smell is starting to dissipate.
Another negative aspect is the lack of storage space. This bed takes up quite a bit of space in the room due to the L-shape design. It also doesn’t offer any storage features like some other beds I viewed. If you are furnishing a smaller room, you may not have a lot of extra space for additional furniture.
The Donco Campsite Bunk Bed is the perfect bunk bed to bring personality and fun to your child’s room. It makes every night feel like a campout, and your kids will not only sleep safely, but they will have hours of fun playing on this bunk bed. This bunk bed is sturdy, made from quality materials, and the distressed grey finish looks beautiful in a rustic-themed bedroom.
